COVID-19 and Loneliness In Gay Community

COVID-19 is causing loneliness and depression in the gay community. Learn how to prevent it and how to cope with being isolated.
The coronavirus virus is deadly. It’s making people sick and killing them. It does not discriminate based on race or color. As of March 28, 2020 there are 121,478 confirmed cases and 2026 deaths.
So far, 80% of patients experience a mild form of the illness, which can include a fever and pneumonia, and many of these cases require little to no medical intervention. That being said, elderly people, children and certain people in the LGBT community are the most vulnerable.
As the coronavirus spreads across the country, the social dynamics and well-being of the queer community has come into flux. Methods meant to cut transmission, like quarantines and social distancing, are already affecting dating lives, nightlife and the day-to-day operation of storied organizations.

In addition to the obvious problems caused by the coronavirus, we are equally troubled by the non-obvious impact of the coronavirus, which is loneliness and depression caused from social distancing and the government mandated isolation. 
The stigma associated with being gay means that many gay men have smaller circles of friends and family. We have compensated for this by relying on each other for companionship and emotional support. During this critical time it’s important the we reach out to our gay friends by phone or video chat. Texting is okay but right now we need to hear some voices.
