He wore glasses, of course, but tried to look less like a nerd by having wire rims instead of the black horn-rims associated with geekdom. It didn’t really help. He still had to wear a pocket protector because, when he was focused on a project he would forget to cap his pen, and ruin his shirt. His dad was always at work and his mom had died when he was twelve.

Do we judge heterosexuals’ by Shelley’s FRANKSENSTEIN, or by Dickin’s OLIVER TWIST, or Rice’s VAMPIRE’s . It’s called fiction, put it down, turn the page or burn if you must, but to use terms like “morally and legally wrong” to describe fiction scares me.
It is a fantasy piece, and you seem to be much too eager to lump all gay men into this “criminal, and morally and legally wrong” scenario. You are wrong on both counts. If the story offends your sensibilities, (and it’s fine if it does) then just don’t read anymore of this story. There are others offered for your entertainment.
It has nothing to with just being gay, but about dealing with the bullies in this world.
If you had been picked on by bullies from day 1 at school and that had set you up for the bullies in life as I was, you would understand how people can think like this.
To survive the bullies as I have until age 77 you would really appreciate the moral of this story and wish you had been able to do something like this to them.
